Happy Anniversary - April Fool's Style!

Today is an anniversary of sorts in our house. No, it's not our wedding anniversary but, it is the anniversary of the moment that our lives changed forever...

April Fools Day 1997. I was in my early twenties and finishing up my last semester of college. I had just moved in to the apartment R and I would share once his current lease ran out. He was living with his college roommates even though he had been out for two years. In truth I think he was trying to hold on to that last bit of his carefree beer drinking days! We were young and excited to start our future. I was going to start grad school and he was just a few years into his career. Well, the day after we moved my stuff in to the new apartment, R ran out to pick up a few groceries and stock up the kitchen. At the last minute I added a pregnancy test to the bottom of the list. I was a couple of days late and just wanted to put my mind at ease. I am pretty sure that this is the precise moment that the universe said, HA!

R came home with everything on the list and I slipped into the bathroom to put my mind at ease. HA! HA! HA! Two little pink lines popped up at once. I emerged from the bathroom and told R the news. And, you will never guess his response. He looked me straight in the eye and said "you know, it is April Fools Day, I bet the test knows it!". Really. Honestly. That was his response. R then quickly grabbed his wallet and ran out to the pharmacy to find a test that was not aware that it was, in fact, April Fools Day. He came home with two "mega packs" of tests. And, I started to drink copious amounts of water. After taking seven, yes seven, tests, R was finally convinced that there was no way that all of the tests could possibly be in on the prank.

So, we both sat down on the couch and came up with a new life plan. One that had our wedding date moved up by many months and a baby arriving years before we expected. And, once all of the new plans had been laid out, we looked at each other and just laughed. Really, what else was there to do? The universe had just played the best April Fools Day prank on us ever!
